Hogan Lovells Partner and Privacy and Cybersecurity Practice Global Co-Head Eduardo Ustaran, CIPP/E, said the interplay between the EU General Data Protection Regulation and the ePrivacy Directive is more complicated than most organizations realize, Computer Weekly reports. Ustaran said European data protection law will likely become more harmonized; however, the delay in the implementation of the proposed ePrivacy Regulation has complicated the landscape. “The whole e-Privacy Directive/forthcoming Regulation and GDPR debate is one of the most complex legal conundrums going on at the moment in this space,” Ustaran said. “The recent EDPB opinion is very helpful in terms of understanding the regulators’ thinking, but where the e-Privacy Regulation fits in is a big missing piece.”
