A multi-industry survey across 14 countries found organizations are increasingly adopting encryption technology to protect data, improve security, and meet compliance requirements, Computer Weekly reports. The Ponemon Institute’s 2019 Global Encryption Trends Study found the main drivers behind this trend are the need to protect data generated through internet-of-things devices, increase data protection requirements, and avoid reputational damage resulting from a data breach. Barriers to implementing an encryption strategy include understanding where sensitive information lives within an organization, deploying the technology, and deciding which data to encrypt.
