The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada announced it will provide $500,000 in funding to 11 privacy research projects as part of its 2022-2023 Contributions Program. The OPC received 33 proposals from across Canada under this year’s theme, “Who is impacted and how: assessing and mitigating privacy risks, barriers and inequalities.” One project will explore privacy, artificial intelligence and machine learning through a “rural, remote and Indigenous lens” out of Nunavut, while others include review of public perspectives around facial recognition and privacy in virtual classrooms.
