In an op-ed for the Guardian, Paul Chadwick writes that as technology becomes an all-pervasive entity, global regulations concerning the growth of artificial intelligence are required to avoid a concentration of power among the leading tech companies. To emphasize this point, Chadwick looks to Paul Nemitz, a senior European Commission official, who said, “We need a new culture of technology and business development for the age of AI which we call ‘rule of law, democracy and human rights by design.’” Absent regulation, Nemitz warns it will lead to “a widespread culture of disregard of the law and put democracy in danger.”
