The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has named aviation expert Hoot Gibson to serve as its unmanned aerial systems integration senior advisor and FAA official Earl Lawrence as director of the Integration Office, Reuters reports. Meanwhile, the FAA’s recent approval of a Washington, DC-based company to fly 324 drones in order to collect data on things like emergency response or maximizing farming harvests has privacy advocates agitated, and the University of Arkansas has announced it will prohibit drones from flying over campus, save for flights approved by the provost and vice provost for research and economic development.
