Bell has said it will abide by Office of the Privacy Commissioner (OPC) urgings to obtain opt-in consent from customers before using online behavioral advertising, Reuters reports. This “is the most comprehensive finding yet involving online behavioral advertising,” Shaun Brown of nNovation writes in a blog post. The OPC had received "an unprecedented number of complaints,” and Privacy Commissioner Daniel Therrien said its “ad program involves the use of vast amounts of its customers’ personal information, some of it highly sensitive.” The Globe and Mail reports that after meeting with Bell representatives, the OPC stated, while it cannot comment on the specifics of the meeting, “we are not yet in a position where we can confirm that our concerns have been satisfied.”
