Here at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meetings in Lima, Peru, the Cross Border Privacy Rules system was under the microscope as part of the Data Privacy Sub Group meetings. The big news? Japan is now a fully participating member of the CBPR system, with Japanese firm JIPDEC joining TRUSTe as only the second accountability agent up and running and ready to certify companies for participation in the program. While still in its infancy, the CBPR program offers benefits to participating companies, attendees here heard, and it may be ready to hit its stride after some necessary adjustments.
