Speaking at the Mobile World Congress in Spain Monday about Apple’s dispute with the FBI, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said, “We’re sympathetic with Apple on this one. We believe in encryption.” Microsoft Founder Bill Gates has been more measured with his take on the issue. PCWorld reports he said he backs the U.S. government, but in a video interview with Bloomberg, Gates said he was “blindsided” by such reports. European Commission Vice President Andrus Ansip said he supports encryption. Though he didn’t want to talk about specific cases, he said, “Identification systems are based on encryption. I am strongly against having any kind of backdoor to these systems.”
