In an official White House blog post, Deputy U.S. Chief Technology Officer Ed Felten announced a new series of public workshops designed to better understand the potential benefits and concerns about artificial intelligence. Felten notes that “a series of breakthroughs in the research community and industry have recently spurred momentum and investment” in the AI field. With a potential to transform health care, education and transportation, AI will also bring with it risks, including privacy and security risks. As a result, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy will co-host four workshops in the coming months. Cities include Seattle, Washington, Pittsburgh and New York City. The workshops will then “feed into the development of a public report later this year,” Felten wrote.
