A class-action lawsuit filed against Wendy’s restaurants claims the company could have done more to prevent a major breach financial officials are calling one of the worst attacks in years, Courthouse News Service reports. Hackers using malware broke into Wendy’s computer system, potentially stealing data from millions of its customers’ credit cards between October 2015 and March 2016. Customers weren’t alerted of the breach until January. Banks also discovered fraudulent use on cards used at Wendy’s locations. Instead of notifying the public and banks of the breach when it learned of the issue in early January, Wendy’s waited until the end of the month to make any announcement. The lawsuit claims Wendy’s employed outdated computer and credit card systems, making it easy for hackers to access the data. The suit, filed by the banks of affected customers, also said, “Wendy’s systematically failed to comply with industry standards and protect payment card and customer data."
