The U.K. government has released a white paper asking the European Union for an “association agreement” following Brexit, Politico reports. The white paper calls for a “free-trade area” for goods, looser arrangements for financial services, and continued membership with EU agencies. The U.K. government would adhere to EU regulations and product standards for goods in order to uphold “just-in-time” supply chains. The proposal includes the creation of a joint EU-U.K. committee tasked with ruling on whether any changes to EU rules affect the agreement, with the U.K. Parliament then deciding whether to continue following the rules after the decision.
