The U.K. government is considering requiring Facebook to develop a system that would allow security agencies and police to read messages sent across its services, the Guardian reports. Home Secretary Priti Patel is expected to raise the discussion later this month as the Home Office considers compelling Facebook through a technical capability notice, citing reasons of national security. The Open Rights Group objects, saying it would subject “all our private messages to monitoring and surveillance on the assumption that we are all criminals.”
