Publication of voter data at the hands of hackers across the globe has some in the U.S. questioning how to keep the increasingly computerized voting process more secure, The Hill reports. Vulnerable data could translate into widespread election fraud, says Free & Fair CEO Joseph Kiniry. “If you can go in there and delete rows based on someone’s name or political affiliation, we will have a massively screwed up election process on the day,” he said. State legislation, law enforcement’s technical knowledge, and the privacy standards of third-party vendors are often incomplete, further leaving voter data vulnerable, the report states. “If you can’t keep the voter registration records safe, what makes you think you can keep the votes safe?” said Verified Voting President Pamela Smith.
