The German Ministry of the Interior has released a revised version of its Federal Data Protection Act after its original in August 2016 was criticized by analysts and data protection authorities, Hogan Lovells' Chronicle of Data Protection blog reports. The act was in response to the opening clauses of the General Data Protection Regulation that "offer countries some freedom in their implementation of the Regulation and, thus, room to differ," the report states. "The draft BDSG provides further details regarding the scope and implementation of existing GDPR provisions and also contains additional data protection requirements beyond those provided for in the Regulation," the report continues, adding that it doesn't address some of the criticism from the act's first draft and therefore "it is unclear whether the current draft will be successfully enacted and, if it is, whether it complies with compulsory European law requirements."
