A woman is suing the University of Oregon for privacy violations after it allegedly used her mental health records to defend itself against allegations it “mishandled” her sexual assault by three of its basketball players, NPR reports. The three players were kicked out of school, but the assault case never went to trial. The woman suing the school had received therapy at the school’s clinic after being sexually assaulted. The university then allegedly used those records in its defense. The student-run Organization Against Sexual Assault’s Kelsey Jones said, “It’s very concerning for a lot of people … It’s 10 times harder now to seek that help and feel safe and feel OK to share 100 percent of what you’re feeling.”
