Reuters reports Russian President Vladimir Putin approved legislation requiring all mobile and smart devices sold in the country to be pre-installed with Russian software. The new law, which has raised concerns among some electronic retailers, will come into force July 1, 2020. Meanwhile, according to Hunton Andrews Kurth's Privacy & Information Security Law Blog, the lower house of the Federal Assembly of Russia has passed a bill to increase fines for violations of the country's data protection law. The bill now moves to the upper chamber of Russian Parliament, and, if approved, would be sent to Putin for his signature. If signed, the bill would take effect immediately.
