Ramifications from a 2012 breach of British Columbia’s health agency created a “freeze” on the publication of medical research data, The Globe and Mail reports. Among the affected studies were those pertaining to prescription drugs and Alzheimer’s disease. While British Columbia Health Minister Terry Lake lamented the result, he stood by how the ministry responded to the situation. “It wasn’t aimed at any particular study, everyone got caught up in a breach,” Lake said. “This isn’t the only place this kind of research goes on, but B.C. has done some really good research and it’s unfortunate that it had to be interrupted while we fixed the problems that were identified by the [privacy] commissioner.”
