Amazon’s Ring rejected a request from U.S. Sen. Edward Markey, D-Mass., to adjust its settings so the smart doorbell does not record nearby, extraneous audio, Gizmodo reports. Markey sent a letter to the company in June that said Ring’s ability to record such audio risked peoples’ right to “assemble, move, and converse without being tracked,” and requested the company change the settings so the device was not set to record audio as a default setting. The company said the default recording setting was necessary to prevent a "negative experience" for customers.
