Surveillance research group IPVM found China is using surveillance firms to create standards for mass facial recognition systems, Reuters reports. The standards detail how data could be broken down by characteristics, including skin color and ethnicity. “It’s the first time we’ve ever seen public security camera networks that are tracking people by these sensitive categories explicitly at this scale,” IPVM's Charles Rollet said. “It’s ripe for abuse.”
