According to the Protenus Breach Barometer, approximately 1.13 million patient records were involved in 110 health care data breaches during the first quarter, HealthITSecurity reports. The breach barometer found 77.1 percent of privacy violations came from health care insiders. The report stated, “This is an unfortunate example of how detrimental insider threats can be for a healthcare organization.” Meanwhile, a class-action lawsuit was filed against UnityPoint Health over a data breach impacting 16,429 patients. The lawsuit alleges the company misled patients about the data breach and waited more than two months to report the breach to regulators.
