In an op-ed for the Guardian, Institute for Ethics in AI Associate Professor Carissa Véliz writes about whether the U.K. may "fall behind the rest of the developed world" if it foregoes upholding citizens' rights to privacy and becomes a "data haven" post-Brexit. Véliz referred to potential "data washing" associated with the haven, explaining how the U.K. might be "willing to host data acquired in unlawful ways (e.g., without proper consent or safeguards) that is then recycled into apparently respectable products."
