A security breach compromising 3.25 million Indian debit cards is a "wake-up call" for India to more strongly embrace cybersecurity measures, Utkarsh Amitabh writes in an op-ed for Quartz India. "Public-private partnership for cyber crime is the only sustainable solution," he writes. "And for this to be achieved, trust is essential and that’s where matters become complicated. World over, governments and private players have locked horns over issues such as data ownership, liability, audit frequency, among others." Amitabh suggests bridging those gaps by beginning with the World Economic Forum's Cybercrime Project's recommendations, ideas mired in "transparency and accountability" and that work to "encourage dialogue and cooperation on practical ways of dealing with cyber crime." Regardless, the time has passed for "shirking blame," he adds. Ownership and progress is necessary.
