In an op-ed for the Brookings Institution, Daniel Ho, Emily Black, Maneesh Agrawala and Fei-Fei Li discuss "actionable steps" that can be taken by lawmakers at any level of government to limit the misuse of facial recognition. The researchers said policymakers should "empower regulators to use stronger auditing authority and the procurement process" to ensure facial recognition technology remains harmless to the public. The actionable steps include adopting principles for transparency, access and recertification of performance during the testing technology's phase.
