The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner released its Notifiable data breach report covering the second half of 2022. Information and Privacy Commissioner Angelene Falk said the total number of breaches increased 26% from the first half of 2022 and 33 of the 40 breaches affecting more than 5,000 people were connected to "cybersecurity incidents." Meanwhile, The Sydney Morning Herald reports three data breaches alone compromised the personal information of between 1 million and 10 million people. While the OAIC report did not specify the entities that experienced the data breaches, the timeframe would have included the breaches of telecommunications provider Optus and health insurer Medibank.
