We’re supposed to be in the midst of the lazy, hazy days of summer. Tell that to my calendar! What a crazy time of year, almost as wonky as the weather we’ve been having.

I’m busy doing PIA work, providing legal opinions on data-sharing agreements and negotiating deals that involve the transfer (and necessary protection of) personal information. You know, the type of work that should’ve been done in Saskatchewan before eHealth shared personal information with Elections. You can get more details in the story below, but the punchline is that, in this day and age, you’re supposed to be working proactively — not after something goes wrong.

What’s on your to-do list this summer? I hope it’s rewarding and not too time consuming so that you have a bit of time to relax. But the one thing I will ask that you add to your to-do list is taking a few minutes to fill out the IAPP’s Privacy Governance Survey. If you’re in-house, it’s vitally important that we gather information about how privacy pros are doing their jobs. When the survey results come out, I’m sure you’ll appreciate being able to use it as a benchmark for where you are and where you might want to be.
