New Zealand’s Office of the Privacy Commissioner issued a statement on the value of court injunctions to secure individuals’ data following a data breach. Privacy Commissioner Michael Webster said the High Court’s injunction to stop sharing or using personal data stolen in a breach of Mercury IT last year best demonstrates injunctions’ effectiveness. The High Court’s permanent injunction “prevents anyone from storing, publishing, sharing, or accessing files obtained from the (Mercury IT's systems) attack.”
