A bill to repeal and replace New Zealand’s 25-year-old privacy act has been introduced to parliament, TVNZ news reports. The bill would account for the new ways in which personal information is used, stored and transmitted and would strengthen the privacy commissioner’s powers. Provisions include mandatory data breach notification obligations and new criminal offenses rendered for privacy offenses and would increase powers of the privacy commissioner to enforce compliance. The bill was introduced by Justice Minister Andrew Little.
