Presenters from the National Research Council recommended the creation of a national data strategy to top government officials in order to ensure Canada does not become “a nation of ‘data cows’ for other countries,” The Canadian Press reports. The Liberal government has launched consultations taking place both in person and online in order to better inform a final policy. During their presentation, NRC researchers warned artificial intelligence could give tech companies, such as Facebook and Amazon, additional influence over the country’s economy, which could end up harming domestic businesses.
