Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey announced that Yapstone, a California-based company that processes property payments, will pay $155,000 to resolve allegations that it violated privacy protections when it exposed the personal information of 6,800 Massachusetts residents. In addition to the settlement, Yapstone is required to take additional steps to ensure the protection of personal data, including maintaining a chief information security officer, implementing security policies, and training employees. Meanwhile, U.S. coffee chain Caribou Coffee confirmed a data breach involving its point-of-sale systems that impacted roughly 40 percent of its locations.
