The New York Times reports Julia Angwin has been let go from the nonprofit news site, The Markup, a news site she co-founded. In a letter obtained by the Times, Angwin wrote her termination was a result of differences between her and the former head of the Wikimedia Foundation and Markup Co-Founder Sue Gardner. Angwin stated Gardner wanted to change the site’s mission from “producing meaningful data-centered journalism about the impact of technology on society” to advocacy against tech companies. Gardner denied the claims made by Angwin, the report states. (Registration may be required to access this story.) Editor's note: Angwin will speak at the IAPP Global Privacy Summit 2019 in Washington, May 3.
