Last week, Italy's new anti-cyberbullying law went into effect. The Italian Data Protection Authority, the Garante, has "saluted the provision as an important step forward for the protection of children and teenagers in the digital environment," Rocco Panetta writes in this post for Privacy Tracker. However, the law has received criticism "both of a technical and a political nature." Sufficient resources to implement the law and potential difficulties with implementation remain concerns for some. Panetta outlines the main provisions of the law, including its definition of cyberbullying, powers given to affected children and their parents, who is covered by the law, and the next steps toward effective implementation.
