The Washington Post reports U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has ceased its pursuit of an artificial intelligence technology to bolster the Trump administration's "extreme vetting" initiative. Last summer, ICE officials asked industry contractors to develop an Extreme Vetting Initiative that could mine social networks and other information on the internet to determine whether an immigrant or visitor to the country would commit a criminal or terrorist act or was a "positively contributing member of society." Instead, the agency has allegedly hired a contractor to provide training, management and human personnel. Carissa Cutrell, an ICE spokeswoman, said the program is now called the Visa Lifecycle Vetting program.
