The Brookings Institution looks at how the passing of Proposition 24 could impact the development of a U.S. privacy law. The California Privacy Rights Act includes new standards for accountability and protecting personal information that a federal law will need to meet or surpass. Congress can include elements in a federal law to fill in gaps the CPRA did not address, such as a private right of action and tackling algorithmic discriminations.
