The Hong Kong Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data published a review of its 2022 activities, during which it responded to 105 data breach notifications. In total, the PCPD received 3,848 complaints last year, which was an increase of 15% from 2021, and largely attributed to doxxing complaints. The PCPD also received 14,929 public inquiries, which was a 15% drop from the year prior. Additionally, the PCPD completed its investigation into the ransomware attack of the Hong Kong Institute of Bankers, in which it found “deficiencies in HKIB’s awareness of data security risks.”
