The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office for Civil Rights proposed modifications to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act Privacy Rule. The changes would give patients increased access to their health information and make it easier for them to share data. The revamped rules would also allow for increased flexibility when disclosing information for emergency circumstances. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services also announced it proposed new rules to facilitate data sharing between payers, providers and patients.
