Australian Privacy Commissioner Timothy Pilgrim has said that 71 percent of the Australian companies under the Global Privacy Enforcement Network assessment do not provide consumers with clear enough answers regarding how their internet of things tools and services handle, collect and store customer data, iTWire reports. Additionally, “89 percent of organizations did not clearly indicate whether there were tools a user could access to delete personal information off the device so they can resell the device and 93 percent of devices did not clearly tell users if or how they could delete information remotely if their device is lost or stolen,” the report states. “This year’s GPEN sweep has reinforced how important it is for businesses, particularly startups, to implement a ‘privacy-by-design’ approach, where strong privacy frameworks and communications are implemented from the beginning,” Pilgrim said.
