During an earnings call, Google CEO Sundar Pichai downplayed the effects the EU General Data Protection Regulation will have on its advertising business, CNBC reports. Pichai said the majority of its business comes from search advertising, an area where little personalization occurs, while touting the company’s efforts to prepare for the impending rules. "GDPR is a fairly new public topic, but for us it's not new," Pichai said. "We started working on GDPR compliance over 18 months ago and have been very, very engaged on it." Meanwhile, Bloomberg reports on Google’s attempts to fight back against the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act, while The New York Times reports on the ways the GDPR could work to the advantage of tech companies, such as Google and Facebook.
