In a blog post, members of the U.S. Federal Trade Commission's Office of the Chief Technologist and its Division of Privacy and Identity Protection stressed the importance of proper breach disclosure practices. The post outlines the results of effective breach disclosure techniques, including how they can "fulfill legal obligations and be essential to enabling consumers and other affected parties to take actions to mitigate harm resulting from the breach." Staffers added that compliance requirements under the FTC Act also helps create "a de facto breach disclosure requirement."
