In order to better understand the privacy practices of internet service providers, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission has issued orders to seven broadband providers for information on the ways the companies use customer data. Orders were sent to AT&T, AT&T Mobility, Comcast Cable Communications, Google Fiber, T-Mobile U.S., Verizon Communications and Cellco Partnership. The FTC seeks to learn what categories of personal data the providers gather; whether the data is shared with third parties; internal policies for the access of customer data; whether any data is aggregated, anonymized or de-identified; and their processes to allow customers to access, correct and delete their personal information.
