The Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University is asking a judge to uphold Maine’s broadband privacy law, MediaPost reports. The law requires internet service providers to obtain user consent before targeting ads. The broadband industry says the measure, slated to take effect in July, violates the First Amendment and seeks to block it in court. “Not every law that regulates the commercial exchange of data should be understood as a law that regulates speech,” the Institute said.
