Reuters reports a draft executive order from U.S. President Joe Biden would give the U.S. Department of Justice power to stop foreign countries like China from accessing Americans’ personal data. The proposal would also direct the Department of Health and Human Services to stop federal funding from supporting the transfer of U.S. health data to foreign adversaries. If implemented, the order would provide and U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland with authority to review and potentially prevent commercial transactions involving data deemed risky to national security. The order is under review by government agencies.
