In an interview with Netzpolitik.org, Bavarian Data Protection Authority Head of Internet Division Kristin Benedikt spoke about the Bavarian DPA’s ruling last year that found matching customers’ email addresses with their Facebook accounts requires explicit consent. As Benedikt explained, the Bavarian DPA is coordinated with 15 other federal states, adding she did not believe the interpretation of Facebook’s Custom Audience tool was unique. She added other European DPAs have shown interest in the ruling "and asked us for the basis of our prohibition of using Custom Audiences. So far we only received encouraging feedback. From our perspective it actually is a very clear matter anyhow."
