On Feb. 19, the European Commission published its proposals on artificial intelligence, a data strategy and Europe’s digital future. Despite media speculation, the "White Paper on Artificial Intelligence" stopped well short of recommending a ban on facial recognition that had appeared in earlier leaked drafts. The "European strategy for data" focuses on ways to encourage data sharing around the EU and proposes the creation of "common spaces" for different types of data.
