At the 12th annual Data Protection Practitioners’ Conference, U.K. Information Commissioner Elizabeth Denham said implementation of the EU General Data Protection Regulation is at a “critical stage,” Computer Weekly reports. Denham said the GDPR was created for organizations to understand and mitigate data-processing risks and instill data protection as part of an entity’s culture; however, the commissioner has not seen those values come into practice. Denham added the next phase of the GDPR requires a realized focus on comprehensive data protection. "An accountability approach gives those of you who have the skillset, who have the passion, a chance to see a changing world as an opportunity to have a real and lasting impact," Denham said.
