  • U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., announced data brokers SafeGraph and Placer.ai made a permanent commitment to not sell location data of individuals visiting abortion clinics. Warren and other lawmakers have introduced the Health and Location Data Protection Act, which Warren said bans data brokers from selling the data and establishes “serious privacy protections for consumers.”
  • In an op-ed for The Hill, Stanford Internet Observatory research scholar Riana Pfefferkorn said the federal government is “poised” to use law enforcement to help states that have banned abortion or are likely to do so following the overturning of Roe v. Wade. “Thanks to years of regulatory inaction on online privacy, modern criminal investigations have access to copious amounts of digital data that Americans generate — often unwittingly — from a multitude of sources,” she said.
