After an apparent copy-and-paste error led to a data breach, New Zealand’s Inland Revenue Department’s data protection protocols are being questioned, Nine to Noon reports. After completing a form to cancel child support payments, a woman received the full name of an unrelated father and child. While the IRD affirmed the breach was the result of human error when an employee was manually handling two customers’ information simultaneously, the woman said that despite being assured her details were not shared with anyone else, she was “not confident.” The IRD issued a formal apology.
