TechCrunch reports on D-ID, a company founded last year that now provides facial-recognition masking technology. D-ID's founders met when serving in the Israeli Special Forces and Israeli Intelligence Corps. CEO Gil Perry explained, "We couldn't share our photos and profiles over the web because of sensitive positions. ... We felt bad because we are very social and everyone was sharing photos, but we couldn't." As a result, they created technology that makes images unrecognizable to facial-recognition algorithms, while remaining similar to the original picture. The company serves three verticals: companies that need to protect employees, health management organizations, and government and security agencies that need to secure biometric data.
