The Canadian Internet Registration Authority detailed Canadian citizens’ thoughts on privacy, misinformation and cybersecurity in a report titled “Canadians Deserve a Better Internet.” Of the more than 1,200 Canadians polled, 75 percent said they have seen “fake news” on the internet, and 70 fear fake news could affect the next federal election. When asked about privacy topics, 72 percent said they would exchange their data for services, 87 percent expressed concerns that businesses share personal data with third parties without consent, and 86 percent said it is important for government data to be stored and transmitted within the country.
