The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is teaming up with the National Center for Health Statistics and IBM for a pilot program designed to incorporate blockchain into its electronic health records data-sharing system, GCN reports. The program will use the technology to gather and secure data and metadata collected from EHRs, allowing the CDC and other users to see all data transactions for subjects who have given their consent. The goal of the pilot program is to increase transparency into the lifecycle of data, as well as make it easier for anyone observing the technology to detect malicious activity.
