Dubbed the “Android for the paranoid,” the Blackphone runs an operating system called PrivatOS and is the first consumer-grade smartphone to be built explicitly for privacy. It employs services and software aimed at protecting users’ digital information in a straightforward way. The phone is the product of collaboration between Silent Circle and Geeksphone. Ars Technica reports the phone appears to live up the hype; user testing indicated “little if any data leakage that would give any third-party observer anything usable in terms of private information.”
